A VILLA NEXT TO HEAVEN

We are in the heart of Sintra, where nature and history beat in peaceful and contemplative harmony. Quinta da Penalva welcomes you to offer a unique slow travel experience in Portugal, only 30 minutes away from Lisbon and 20 minutes away from the charming Cascais. A peaceful and strategic spot that allows visitors to be close to the city and the sea while surrounded by forests, mountains, woods and palaces that make the region one of the most discreet destinations in Europe.

The four-hectare estate belonged to the Portuguese family Mello e Castro and since 1977 has been a treasure well preserved by the Portuguese-Brazilian family Almeida Braga. The story goes that the tennis court was built for Queen Dona Amélia to play her favourite sport when she spent the summer months with her husband, King Carlos I, in Pena Palace. Already in the early 20th century, the renowned Portuguese architect Raul Lino (1879-1974) was called in to intervene, creating the loft, gazebo and tea house where today we can spend endless afternoons between cocktails and gentle conversations with family and long-time friends.

The guest house can be rented for short or long stays throughout the year, as well as rented for weddings, birthday parties, cocktail parties or corporate events. The house, personally decorated by the owners in the best cosy chic style, has already hosted Formula 1 champion Ayrton Senna and three-time Rolling Garros champion Gustavo Kuerten, two special guests who became friends and made the Quinta their home for memorable seasons.

Like them, many special people have come and gone to feel once again the invigorating air of Sintra and the peace of one of the most desired countries of the moment. Whether winter or summer, we are proud to welcome people from the four corners of the world who share with us the mantra that life is an acquisition of memories.

‘Once a year, go somewhere you have never been before.’ (Dalai Lama).

We are waiting for you.
